Christmas at Chapter means a packed and diverse programme of theatre, film, comedy and events – from food and films to books, beer and bratwurst, there is something for everyone, even the grumpiest Grinch!
Returning to Cardiff due to huge demand is Welsh theatre company Dirty Protest’s production of Last Christmas by Matthew Bulgo, on December 9-10. Returning home for Christmas, Tom (Sion Pritchard) is confronted with the ghosts of his past. Forced to face his demons, will he be able to rescue his family and his future in time?
For younger audiences and their families, Likely Story Theatre bring their unique story telling style to classic Norwegian fairy tale, The Giant Who Had No Heart in His Body, on December 19. With original music, puppetry and a sprinkling of magic, this story tells more than just the heroic deeds of princes and princesses, of giants and big bad wolves, but of facing your fears, becoming your own hero and finding your courage.
On December 18, the talented Affinity Female Voice Choir presents Dreaming of Christmas!, a feast of festive favourites both old and new, conducted by musical director Diane Wright and accompanied by Ryan Wood. Sure to get everyone into the spirit of the season!
As well as live performance, there is Chapter’s usual great selection of films, including It’s A Wonderful Life (December 21-24), Trading Places (Dec 20- 22), Muppets Christmas Carol (December 3, 4, 17, 21, 24) and Bad Film Club’s Xmas Double Bill of Avalanche and The Apple (December 4).
Chapter will also play host to lots of other seasonal events. The Oh So Crafty Christmas Fair on December 3 and 4 will be crammed with jewellery, textiles,
ceramics and homeware and promises to be the ideal place to pick up some unique and handmade Christmas gifts. Over that same weekend, everyone in the family can get creative with lots of activities and workshops including:
Gingerbread Men and Melted Snowman biscuit decorating; Christmas Tree Decoration and Christmas Card Making workshops; the Chapter Snowman Competition; and a stop motion animation workshop (see website for full
schedule).
The Festive Food Fair on December 18 will be the time to stock up on gorgeous chocolates, tasty cheese and delicious meats, and Chapter’s café will be serving Christmas specials throughout the festive period. The Box Office and Shop will also be selling a wide selection of gifts and cards from local designers – perfect for those stocking fillers and last minute presents.
For more information, a full schedule of events and to book tickets call Chapter’s Box Office on 029 2030 4400 or visit chapter.org.
