Bistro 8 is a traditional pub and restaurant situated in the heart of Blackwood and, for September, it is Voice’s Restaurant of the Month.
Inside, you’ll find a welcoming bar and lounge located on the ground floor, and then on the first floor, there’s a spacious restaurant and conservatory, where you can sit and relax with family and friends to enjoy a delicious gastro-style meal.
The menu offers a variety of classic pub grub meals as well as traditional Spanish and Mediterranean inspired dishes, with an emphasis on seafood and fish dishes.
Wherever possible, all food is sourced locally from nearby farms and food producers, with fresh, sustainable fish and seafood being delivered daily
from a reputable UK supplier.
Head chef Ian has more than 20 years’ experience, working in some of the finest high-quality and rosette award restaurants in the country, bringing his wealth of knowledge of seafood the heart of the South Wales Valleys.
There are two menus to choose from – a fabulous money saver menu and the extensive a la carte menu.
Diners can take advantage of Bistro 8’s lunchtime and early bird offer, where you can get two courses for £13.95. This fantastic offer is available for lunch from noon until 2pm and from 5pm until 7pm in the
evenings, Tuesday to Friday.
rom the early bird menu choose from a wide variety of starters, mains and desserts including homemade soup of the day, beef and venison pie, pan fried cod fillet as well as wide choice of freshly prepared desserts.
This great money-saving deal is available lunchtime Tuesday to Saturday from noon until 2.30pm, and again in the eveningMonday to Friday from
5pm to 7pm.
The main a la carte menu offers a wide range, which take inspiration from around the world, and include a choice of starters, classics, mains, steaks and daily specials.
The menu changes seasonally, and this month on the menu includes such delights as Malaysian lamb curry, pan friedWelsh lamb rump, 8oz centre-cut fillet, and fresh baby squid.
Voice got the chance to photograph a few of the options on offer to tempt you. Its extensive specials board changes daily, with signature dishes and popular menu choices staying on the board permanently. The specials board also offers a tempting selection of freshly made tapas, where you can get one dish for £5.50, three for £15 or all options for £24.
Sunday Lunch is served every week from noon until 3pm and is priced at £14.95 for two courses. There’s always a fine selection of roasts to choose from, which come served with fresh seasonal vegetables and a delicious homemade gravy.
While you’re are waiting to be seated in the restaurant, why not enjoy a drink in the bar and lounge? It offers a choice of three different cask ales, more than 100 unique gins to the area, as well as an extensive list of wines and Champagnes, craft beers, lagers and cocktails (two for £10 Friday and Saturday from 5pm until 7pm).
The team have also finalised the Bistro 8 Christmas menus, which are now available for booking priced at £24 for two courses and £27.50 for three courses.
Options from the festive menu include traditional roast turkey crown, roast topside of beef, seasonal pan fired catch of the day, lasagne Verdi and pan seared venison steak to name but a few. All mains served with gravy, roasted root vegetables, cauliflower cheese and braised red cabbage. Sprouts and gluten free gravy upon request.
