Parc Pantry was voted as Voice’s Coffee Shop of the Year for a fourth time at this year’s V Awards, which is an incredible achievement for co-owners Matt Ellis and Ant Cook.
Voice caught up with the gents to find out why they’re so popular with the people of Newport. Here’s what they had to say:
What have the past four and a half years been like?
To say they have been a blur is an understatement! We started out as a little shop selling homewares, coffee and cake in our local area into becoming part of the developing food and coffee scene in Newport and a social hub for everyone in our community.
When you trace back the steps of the four-and-a-half years, it really is incredible to think how much we’ve accomplished; from opening our second venue in the iconic Bellevue Park, being involved in a wide range of community events, weddings, outdoor cinemas, and charity fundraisers to name but a few. Not content with finishing just there we also held a pop-up restaurant in Newport City Centre for six months selling street food style dishes and cocktails, which was extremely well received but not quite the right direction for us as a brand we felt.
In between all of this we have employed more than 100 local people to work for us and join in on the journey. Never content with standing still we’re always looking for the next project and for us right now that means branching out into new areas such as catering and baking all our own items ahead of hopefully opening more shops in the not too distant future.
What’s new on the menu at The Parc Pantry this winter?
Our menu is constantly changing and is generally in line with the seasons, so our customers always have a different option when they next visit.
This winter sees the return of some of our favourites and no doubt everyone will be happy to see the return of our ‘Pie in a Box’ or ‘Pei Cymraeg’ as it’s now called. It’s a Welsh pie on a bed of creamy Parmesan mash with rich onion gravy, pickled red cabbage, crumbled mature cheddar and topped with crunchy onions and ticks all the taste boxes for us!
What are you doing for Xmas?
Hibernating haha!We wish! Christmas is one of our busiest times and generally we like to be involved in as many local events as possible in the run up to it. This year we have a residency at the new Stow Hill Depot throughout November and will also be popping up at various local markets with Cotyledon selling our addictive traybakes and local hampers.
