Landlord Adam Fowler and his team will be celebrating their first anniversary in the autumn and its been a fantastic first year for them at The Star on the Hill.
This is due to Adam and his team’s hard work by keeping the same traditional values of what has made The Star such a great country pub over the years – fantastic food, a wonderful and welcoming family-friendly atmosphere, as well as a spectacular range of drinks, which include local real ales and ciders.
A major refurbishment to its large conservatory extension has been completed, which now allows Adam and his team to cater for parties of up to 130 guests – perfect for weddings, as well as smaller functions like baby showers and birthday parties. The venue’s remote and idyllic location make it great for wedding photos and you can’t ask for a better background than the Brecon Beacons on a summer afternoon, with the light reflecting off the verdant greenery and bountiful blossoms.
The kitchen team is led by head chef Natalie Jones, who offers a delectable choice of dishes made from the finest locally-sourced produce, including a choice of succulent Welsh steaks and fresh lamb from the farm that is located 150 yards down the road.
The farmer’s menu is full of traditional pub grub classics, such as beer battered fish and chips, home-cooked ham egg and chips, pie of the day, beef lasagne and trio of local sausages with mash.
It’s à la carte menu is where head chef Natalie and her expert team of highly skilled chefs showcase their culinary skills using the highest quality Welsh produce.
Mains from this menu include tandoori spiced fillet of salmon, apricot and sage stuffed pork loin, rack of Welsh lamb, and summer vegetable risotto.
A firm favourite with its regulars are its monthly afternoon teas, which are held on the third Saturday of each month between 2.30pm and 5pm.
Afternoon tea is priced at £16.95 per person with high tea priced at £21.95 per person. Booking is essential, as the venue fills quickly for this great British tradition.
Diners can still get the chance to sample the summer menu before it changes in October, where more comfort food style options and winter warmers will be added to the menu.
Sunday lunch is an incredibly popular option and is priced at £20 for two courses or £25 for three courses. There are four roasts to choose from each week, including beef, lamb, chicken and pork belly, with a fish dish and also vegan and vegetarian options available. Please call in advance for any dietary requirements so that the chefs can prep beforehand. Sunday lunch is served from noon until 3pm each week, with a choice of six starters and desserts options that change weekly.
Christmas is coming to the Star on the Hill and its Christmas party menu is now available for bookings – so to avoid disappointment book early!
This delicious two or three-course meal will be available from the last week of November up until December 21. Priced at £22.95 and £29.95, the festive feast is available for both lunch and evening dinner.
The Star will be closed on Christmas Day to give its hard working staff a welldeserved break, but will be celebrating in the New Year with a party.
